What is Past Life Regression Therapy?
Past life memories are the autobiography of your eternal soul-—personal stories that explain who you are now and why you’re here on Earth.
Past life regression is a therapeutic technique for accessing and re-experiencing your past lives directly. A branch of hypnotherapy, past life regression therapy has grown over the last 50 years to be an important addition to the healing arts.
Benefits of Past Life Regression
Some people try past life regression simply out of curiosity to see who they were in the past. But for most, it’s a path for personal growth and healing. With the help of a trained guide, past life regression can help you:
- See personal relationships in a new light
- Energize talents and abilities from the past
- Release fears and anxieties linked to past life traumas
- Release past life traumas at the root of physical problems
- Experience the transitional states of death and beyond
- Understand and align with life purpose
How Does Past Life Regression Work?
While in a light trance, with a trained & experienced guide, you experience each past life yourself. You see it, sense it, and feel it. You are the central character deeply involved in the past life story.
Seeing, Feeling, Sensing Past Lives
Past life regression is an amazing, full-sensory experience. You might experience the memory as a vivid movie, or see only vague flashes of images that prompt the narrative. You might hear gunshots or explosions on a battlefield, or music at a dance. It is possible to recall smells too: smoke from a fire, leather from a saddle, or the sweat of a dirty body.
As the story unfolds, you feel real emotions appropriate to the story. You may cry when you re-experience deep sadness at the death of a beloved child, feel despair in the pit of your stomach as you witness a massacre, or elation at a long-awaited homecoming from war. And just as you can recall strong emotions, you feel the pain of an arrow piercing your body as you are dying, or the heaviness of a load you’re carrying on your back. These physical sensations and emotions are very real in the moment, but pass quickly as you move through the past life story and death.
How the Healing Works
Past life regression is healing. You were born not as a blank slate, but as a soul rich with both the wisdom and scars from many lifetimes.
We all carry memories from past lives into this life–unconscious memories that carry an energetic charge and continue to affect us. They can be things left undone, vows made, accomplishments, failures, mistakes, success, emotional debts, guilt, gratitude, traumatic and sudden deaths, wisdom, and love.
These charges from the past set up patterns which are continually triggered and repeated in our present life. These patterns can be positive or negative. They can affect our relationships, behaviors, motivations, and even our physical bodies and health. Positive patterns can feed talents, bestow wisdom, influence tastes, and energize life purpose. Negative patterns fuel destructive, compulsive behavior, cloud judgment, cause injury, and block your way.
By making these memories conscious, we can release the patterns that no longer serve us, freeing us to live more fully in the present. Beneficial patterns are reinforced, negative patterns are neutralized.
Past life regression is the process of healing the soul by healing the past.
Past Life Regression is Spiritual
Past life regression is gaining recognition as a legitimate form of spiritual healing. No matter what religion you profess—or even if you don’t follow any religion—experiencing yourself as a soul in other lifetimes gives you a profound awareness that you are more than a physical body. You encounter your soul’s essence, connected and aligned to a greater universal energy, perhaps for the first time in your life. This has happened often in my sessions. For those who experience it, they feel truly at peace.
Life Between Life
After slipping from your body, you travel in the spiritual state between lives and feel the energy of “heaven.” You get a glimpse of who you truly are—a soul learning and growing through different incarnations. Some meet guides and make plans. Some dialogue with deceased relatives, and are left with a profound sense of having made genuine contact with their loved ones.
Is a past life regression the same as a psychic reading?
A past life regression is NOT a form of psychic reading, Anna will guide you to remember your own past life memories. She will assist you in processing the memories and relating them to your present life. For you it is an active, not a passive, process. You participate fully in the regression as she guides you through it.
The goal is for you to gain direct experience of yourself as a soul journeying and growing through time towards healing.
How long is a session?
A session is usually between 1.5-2 hours. First we engage in an interview, which might have the feel of a traditional counseling session. We discuss why you want to do a regression and what you would like to accomplish. We will also discuss your present life including your family history, events in early childhood (if you remember), your physical health, etc., as a means of focusing on particular patterns that may be a reflection of your past life experiences. Then we move on to the regression. The regression is done while reclining with your eyes closed so you can direct all your attention on your inner experience. Typically, a client can experience one to three lifetimes during the session.
Then after the regression we talk about the experience. You may feel very peaceful, or a little drained, or slightly disoriented. Hopefully you will also be full of amazement at what you just experienced. Anna will make sure you have time to get reoriented and grounded before you leave.
Do you use hypnosis?
Hypnosis is a form of focused awareness. It is necessary for you to focus inward to access your past life memories–or any distant memories for that matter. So, yes, you will be hypnotized. But it is a surprisingly light trance state. In this state you can still be aware that you are reclining in a chair in the office, that a bird is chirping outside, or an airplane is flying overhead, while at the same time you are completely engrossed in the past life memory.
To help you focus inward, Anna will encourage you to focus on the rhythm of your breathing while relaxing your entire body. By focusing on your breathing, you fall gently into a light trance state. So in a sense, you don’t go “under” hypnosis, you are simply relaxing. As you relax you are gently encouraged to be aware of your inner images, feelings, and physical sensations.
You then focus on a particularly charged thought or feeling, which is often the reason why you wanted to do a regression in the first place, or something we uncovered in the interview. For example, if a dominant theme in your life is the fear of being alone, you would be directed to focus on the thought and the feeling, “I’m all alone.” This serves as a bridge from your present feelings to a relevant past life memory.
Some past life memories are of happy and fulfilling lives. These benign lifetimes help us understand and appreciate our present positive attitudes, talents, and good relationships. They are life’s gifts.
Most memories that surface in past life therapy are of past life trauma, usually a traumatic death. It is the past life trauma that continues to affect us emotionally, mentally, and physically, causing difficulties in many aspects of our present life. By exposing these painful memories to the light of awareness, and understanding the context of the past life and death, the emotional intensity loses its grip. We can finally let go of the past and move forward in our lives. We feel lighter, as if a burden has been lifted. This is the heart of the work: to heal the deepest part of us, our soul. You will not get “stuck” in these traumatic memories. Anna is there to guide you through the experience so you can get the full benefit of the process. Sometimes the healing is immediate and dramatic, or can be more subtle and noticeable over time.
After the regression, you will remember everything you experienced. Over time, new layers of insight and understanding emerge spontaneously.
Can everyone be regressed?
Regression therapy is not for everyone, but the odds are good: about 95% of clients do go back to a past life in the first session.
It has more to do with your soul’s readiness, rapport with the Therapist, your openness and willingness to change, as well as forces unknown or unforeseen on that particular day. Every session is different.
Clients who did not access a past life memory sometimes find that they were changed by something that came up during the interview, or from regressing to an early childhood experience, which is not uncommon.
What results can I expect from my session?
Many different things can come out of a session. Re-experiencing and processing a past life memory might help you understand and resolve current relationships, begin to untangle emotional problems including phobias and compulsions, and even heal physical complaints. It might explain mysteries in your life and give you a greater sense of peace. Perhaps the greatest benefit is experiencing yourself as a soul who has lived before and will live again. Really knowing this can give you a different perspective, perhaps a little more objectivity, on your current life and make you feel differently about your death.
No one can say exactly what will happen in your session, but any or all of these benefits are possible, based on what has been witnessed in the past.
How many sessions are suggested?
Some clients find that one session gives them a tremendous jolt of insight that takes time to process. Remember, this is not talk therapy. It goes far deeper. It is not necessary to do past life regressions every week as you would with traditional psychotherapy. However, some clients find that returning for follow-up sessions help them continue the journey and heal. You may suggest you consider doing more sessions, depending on what your experience is. But it’s always your choice, and you may find that one session is enough.
